It is true that you do learn something new everyday. Today I learned that Cascada is German. Cascada was the band who brought such hits as ‘Everytime We Touch’ and ‘What Hurts the Most’ to the dance floor around half a decade ago, and then they just seemed to disappear off the face of the Earth, well, the UK at least. Now it turns out that the trio, fronted by singer Natalie Horler, will be competing against their fellow Germans to be the act to take it on for the Eurovision title of 2013 with their new song ‘Glorious’. Eurovision is one of the events on my Bucket List to go and see as I love the cheesiness of it all and it seems to be one of the most interesting shows to discover all the varying culture that we have here in Europe. Although the acts probably in no way represent their country, as, for example, last year’s UK entry was Engelbert Humperdinck and let’s just says he doesn’t exactly reflect the Britain of this century.

The 58th Eurovision song contest is going to be hosted in Malmö, Sweden, after the dazzling Loreen won the contest in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2012 with her song ‘Euphoria’ which is still a great song to listen to. Come to think of it, Loreen is another one who has fallen off the face of the Earth. Come back soon Loreen!

This is the full line-up of the Germans who will compete against each other to be the one to represent their home country:

•Ben Ivory – The Righteous Ones

•Betty Dittrich – Lalala

•Blitzkids mvt. – Heart On The Line

•Cascada – Glorious

•Finn Martin – Change

•LaBrassBanda – Nackert

•Mobilée – Little Sister

•Nica & Joe – Elevated

•Die Priester feat. Mojca Erdmann – Ave Maris Stella

•Saint Lu – Craving

•Söhne Mannheims – One Love

•Mia Diekow – Lieblingslied

The selection takes place on the 14th of February, so it will be a happy Valentines for one, whilst the remaining eleven will be left crying into their at-least-you-tried chocolates, like half of the world. The finale of the competition will take place on the 18th of May.
